3 in 1 Juices (Venezuelan Food)

So I was dropping of some shoes in a remote are by N. Federal Highway, and I saw a small place that said "Venezuelan Food". I was intrigued by this small place as it didn't have a name and the interior of the place was painted in all bright green and orange colors. I went on to repair my shoes and when coming out of the shoe repair shop I decided to go inside the store. Their menu was very impressive, as they had almost everything that a Venezuelan citizen might like. The array consisted of "Cachafas", "Empanadas", "Arepas" and many others. They had "Carne Mechada", "Pollo", "Queso Paisa" and many other varieties.

Moreover, the place offered instantly made shakes of fresh fruit that it is at your display. The ambient of the place is such of tranquility, that you could simply go on an afternoon for an Empanada and a coffee. It is a small place and just offers tables for two, although I think that at request they could arrange seating for more people.

Some of their products pictures are as follow:

Soups of the day, Delicious Chicken soup and Whole Pea Soup!

Empanadas with shredded beef, ham & cheese, cheese only, chicken, & fish

Cachapa

Sweet yellow corn, sort of like a pancake, with fresh white cheese, perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

For breakfast, we have shredded beef with refried black beans & white cheese.

I highly recommend this place to anyone that is anxious to grab a quick bite of Venezuelan food.

Sabor Cuban Continental Cuisine (Cuban Cuisine)

This time after reading Dan and Esther's comments on
Sabor, I was amazed on what a bargain they got for their food. I should definitely start looking in the newspaper for specials like the one Dan and Esther described below. I decided to go and eat there and was amazed on how good the food is! I am a tough critic, because I like food and I need something really good to make my heart pump faster.

This is what Dan and Esther had to say about Sabor:

"The usual Cuban restaurant suspects are here, but there are some nice additions as well, including lamb chops, Greek salad, grilled tuna salad, seafood linguine, filet mignon and a burger as well. This former barbecue restaurant has been totally remodeled and is designed for a quiet atmosphere in one room, with a bar area in the other room. It’s quite nice .

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE My wife ordered the churrasco (grilled skirt steak with chimichurri sauce, $15.95), while I went with the lechon asado (roast pork, $13.95). I also ordered flan for dessert, and my wife got café con leche to round off her meal. The meals came with the soup of the day (white bean), black beans and rice. While I thought my pork was wonderful, after tasting my wife’s steak, I know I’ll order that the next time. We used a coupon from the newspaper and got our $13.95 entree for 99 cents. What a bargain.

REASON TO GO Good food. We loved everything we ate. Our server, Yani, was wonderful. She was pleasant to chat with, and even encouraged some other dishes for the next time. NOISE LEVEL Because of the design, it was nice and quiet. We could hear people chatting at the next booth, but just barely. KID FRIENDLY A good Cuban sandwich would keep most kids happy.

Definitely, this restaurant will deserve a second visit in the near future to try out other specialties on their menu!"

I have to agree on their views on Sabor as it is a place that I would go back to.

La Rosa Nautica "Peruvian Cuisine"

This time I had the experience to try the Peruvian restaurant "La Rosa Nautica" I enjoyed the food very much and I learned about this place thanks to Mr. Dan Caballero. Usually I would go on talking on how great the food was, but this has been done for me, as Mr. Caballero is really thrilled about his experience in this restaurant. His experience is as follows:

I have some Peruvian friends visiting my Family, and I was looking for a Peruvian restaurant in the Palm Beach County area to take my friends for dining. After finding the place in a web search and the catchy name “La Rosa Nautica” restaurant caught my eyes, located in Boca Raton. I have not had any dining disappointments in Boca Raton, so my family, and my friends decided to take the drive from West Boynton Beach to Boca on a Saturday afternoon.

As we walked in to the restaurant we were immediately greeted, the restaurant is filled with photos and memorabilia of their beautiful country Peru. I ordered a typical homemade drink. Chicha Morada. It is made of Purple Corn, hmm.... a drink made from Corn I was not convinced that I would enjoy it, I said lets go all the way and stick to their tradition, since it is my very first time trying Peruvian drinks and dishes. Wow, what an excellent way to start. The drink was very refreshing not to sweet and not bitter at all, it had a perfect balance, it was a homemade natural food drink and it was delicious.

We proceeded in ordering appetizers, the waiter did communicate that every dish is made to order; therefore, the wait will be longer than typical restaurants. I was happy of the fact that I was going to be served fresh food, a dish prepared for “me”, that made the experience more exciting and I could not wait. For starters, we ordered Tamal Peruano with Pork, the Tamal was served on a Banana leaf and was very fresh with a bed of red onion salad made with vinegar and a hint of Salt and Pepper very basic and very delicious. The second appetizer we ordered was Pulpo Al Olivio, one thing I can say for sure is that they do not hold back on their portions, the Octopus was very fresh and the Olive sauce was good, I would advise less of the olive sauce so that you can taste the Octopus - but that is my opinion, overall it was very good. Last, we ordered Choritos A La Chalaca, stuffed muscles with, onions, cilantro and lime juice, the balance could not be more than perfect. Did I mention that we, were suppose to be a party of ten. I tell you, we ate for a party of twenty.

Finally, the main course arrives. The Ceviche Mixta which is a variety of fish, was like no other. It had a perfect balance of aji , clilantro and lime to refresh the palette. Now, I personally love seafood, I was very pleased with the appetizers, so we decided that we had to order another typical seafood dish. We decided to order the Jalea de Mixta, a variety of fried fish server with fried Yuca and their typical red onion salad. I was very pleased with their entrees, “Finally some good latin food”.

Wait, I forgot to mention their desserts. We ordered Crema Bolteada, it is very similar to flan, the texture is thicker and it is glazed with a butter scotch like caramel – OH MY GOD. This was a heavenly experience. It did not end there, the Peruvian waiter said that I must try Peruvian Ice Cream, it is made of a special fruit very natural and it is the perfect treat of all. He was right again, it was indeed a special treat. The ice cream had fresh taste and a perfect balance, it was not rich at all, it has a very light taste, it was weightless, very light it was hard to stop eating. I said to my dear Peruvian friend that it taste as if it has a hint of butter scotch, she said “it doesn’t”, regardless of what was in it, I don’t know much about their food but it was perfect. (My palette is still saying a hint of butter scotch by the way). What a way to end our meal.

Now there is a problem, the problem is that everything on the menu sounds delicious. I need to go back and make a couple of visits. Not only was there food delicious, what made the experience more pleasant was the service. The waiters were very pleasant and more than happy to serve you and educate you on their typical Peruvian dishes. What an excellent dining experience. I personally give them five stars overall.

Yours Truly,

An Argentinean looking for a memorable Latin dining experience in South Florida. More to come about a Cuban Restaurant we visited on Sunday afternoon…in Boynton Beach.

La Granja "Peruvian Fast Food"

So, this week I was so busy doing stuff that I didn't have time to look out for a good restaurant to eat. But don't worry that is not a problem. This time I feel like writing about "La Granja". La Granja which is literally translated into english as "The Farm" offers an array of peruvian food. This place has many locations and franchises, therefore making it a type of fast food. La Granja is a good place to eat when you are in a rush. It is an excellent place for take outs and for fast dining. The food is really good as they have Seafood, Sandwiches, Steak, Chicken and many sides.

Their menu is as follows:

Due to the wide variety they have, it makes it really appealing to eat there. It is a nice place to go for a fast dinner as you know that they will give you your food almost immediately. It has a family oriented atmosphere and was named in 2003 "the best peruvian restaurant of the year"

I highly recommend you visiting this restaurant as it is very inexpensive and you do not have to plan a big night out to go for some good food.

What some people said.
"This place is definitely a 4.5 star. my daughter and I love going here. we usually get the 1 lb of steak with rice and beans. the condiment bar is awesome.-chopped onions in all kinds of sauces...one must try each. the chicken is great. the ceviche is also an experience. and i love the orange sauce"

El Tamarindo Cafe "Salvadoran Cuisine"

So, I am super excited because I discovered this place all by myself. No one told me about it, I didn't read any reviews on it. (Although there are many) I was driving down North Federal Highway and eventually got lost. I then found out that I was in Ft. Lauderdale, and I continued driving towards I-95. There is lots of commerce along State Road, so as usual what got me lost in the first place was that I tend to pay attention to many things in my surroundings and not where I am heading. Fortunately for me, this enabled to spot the small and not so attractive restaurant " El Tamarindo Cafe".

During this end of semester, there were many people that asked me to go and drop them of at the airport in Ft. Lauderdale. So this friend asks me to go a drop him of. However, his flight left at 1:00am so we had a lot of time to get to the airport. We ended up going to eat to this restaurant, and it was unbelievable how different it was from the inside. (Very upscale I must say) I knew that this was a Latin American Bistro but had no Idea that it was mainly Salvadoran. How do I know you might ask? Well for starters they sell Pupusas, which are our national dish. (They were so good that I might go after posting this). The food had so much flavor to it that it felt like if I was home. They offered our thick tortillas, and everything was just prepared in a Salvadoran flavor.

The following is the picture of the best food on Earth. (I am so carried away)

Pupusas

I would HIGHLY recommend you to try this restaurant out. Although it is a bit far it is worth the drive. They also offer specials that are not in the menu on the weekends such as 'ceviches' and 'cocteles'

Señor Burrito Authentic Mexican Cuisine

Hey Guys!

Here I go again, today I will introduce you to Señor Burrito. To all those Mexican food lovers this place is right for you. When I first came to Boca I was craving some good tacos and real Mexican cuisine. All I could find were Tex-Mex places such as: Uncle Julio's, Rocco's Tacos and MoQuila. (Don't get me wrong, these places are amazing but have different specialties). Then engaging on a discussion with one of my Professors who I have much respect for, she commented about a small Mexican restaurant, which happened to be one of her favorite places to eat. The restaurant was Señor Burrito. She was so passionate about this place that I had to try it as soon as possible. When I got there I thought "oh-oh" because it didn't look Mexican at all from the outside. (Below picture of Señor Burrito)
I went inside and there were only 5 tables available to seat. I was so disappointed because I knew it wasn't going to be as good as my expectation were thinking of it. To my surprise when the food arrived it was better than what I had first thought of. I ordered a burrito and let me tell you, Moe's and Chipotle should get some tips from these people. The people I was with ordered some fajitas which were also amazing.

I was very satisfied by the end of my meal. Prices are very affordable and it was a nice night-out due to the peaceful environment. (Hate Cheesecake Factory for that matter). I strongly encourage everyone to try this place out! You will love it.

What others have said about this place:
"This place is a hidden gem and always delivers on great, inexpensive Mexican Food. Located in a dumpy strip mall, once you get inside the atmosphere is warm and cozy. The story (from the menu) is that Senor Torito was a famous bullfighter in Mexico who retired and dedicated his energies to making great Mexican meals. Good for the bulls, and us. My favorite is the tacos asada, three steak soft tacos with onions, cilantro, hot sauce and guacamole. Their soup is excellent (and very filling), their fajitas divine, I can go on and on."

Latino's Restaurant and Bar

For all incoming freshmen and current students who want to taste real Latin American cuisine at an affordable price, I introduce to you Latino's Restaurant and Bar. Located on South Military Trail and Hillsboro, Latino's offers a wide range of plates from different nationalities including; Brazilian, Colombian, Peruvian, Dominican, Cuban and Ecuadorian cuisine.

Latino's has every item you need that will make you feel like home. I have been a frequent client of Latino's since one of my friends Aura Cruz discovered it and invited us to have dinner at this magnificent place. Now every time I go to Latino's the waiter goes "Alberto, same as last time?” Latino's has warm hospitality and most of the staff speaks either Spanish or Portuguese, which makes you, feel even more at home.

Latino's is really good when it comes to meat and chicken, below you can find the "Churrasco de la Casa" which is only $12 and includes; Rice, Beans, Plantains, Salad and an Arepa.

Latino's is also a great restaurant for group gatherings. Our current Latin American friends enjoyed their Christmas dinner at Latino's. Although the food was great, getting to pay the bill was a hassle as there were 21-different tabs.

Latino's does not only offer food but has an adjacent supermarket that sells Latin American items for a reasonable price.

What some people have said:
"Latino's Restaurant is owned by the same people as the grocery store next door. I've been coming to both for many years and witnessed the several modifications and upgrades over time. Thankfully, it's safe to say that this is the best shape in which they've ever been.

They have food from all over South America and you can't really go wrong with anything. The place isn't fancy at all--it's a very simple restaurant that serves delicious comfort food, the epitome of Latin cuisine. Last time I came here, I had the beef milanesa, which is fried, breaded steak. It came with a side of rice, beans, and French fries-- the perfect combination. You'll definitely feel a little lazy after you eat all this food so beware! (You might even have some leftovers.)

The workers are kind and welcoming and it's a great place to go for a quick lunch between classes or work."
